* Served in Company A, 4th Virginia Cavalry, J.E.B. Stuart’s Cavalry, Confederate States of America. Captured in Beverly WV, on August 1, 1863, by 28th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Sent to Atheneum Prison, Wheeling, WV, then to POW Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio. Paroled on September 15, 1863, after swearing allegiance to the United States.

HENDRICKSON 01 Oct 1914 William A Hendrickson, a well known citizen of Cumberland, died today at his home near the paper mill in the Narrows. He was 63 years old and had been in ill health for nearly a year. Mr Hendrickson was born in Bedford County PA, coming to Cumberland as a young man. He was an auctioneer for 25 years and a constable for nearly 18 years. He was married three times, and is survived by his third wife and ten children; John Hendrickson from the first union; Ralph Hendrickson and Walter Hendrickson from the second marriage; and Rose, Blanche, George, Crawford, Paul and Alice from the last marriage; and one sister, Mrs John Robinette of Rush MD; and one brother August Hendrickson of Pleasant Valley PA. Burial in Union Grove.
